Chad, you keep bringing up numbers like the whitelist is the problem. We have a queue at 19:00 again and half the names in it are people I have never seen before. That is not the same as having a community. The three-day outage is what gutted the old crowd, and the two_tap ban is still the thing everyone is quietly divided over. The people who left then are not coming back because you opened the whitelist, they left because the server stopped being the sevrer they signed up for. I was there for both, I sat through the 22:00 restart when the vote got counted. Opening the doors wider just means the rules we spent two years building get enforced on people who never agreed to them. You can call that busy if you want.

I wasn't there for the vote, but I heard enough about it afterwards. The people who stayed found a way to play together, and that's what the whitelist queue is actually testing. I looked at the list at 18:40 tonight and recognised three names out of the whole thing. Opening it wider doesn't bring back the ones who left, but keeping it suht doesn't either -- maybe we just need to agree what we want this server to be.

I remember standing in that field in 2013 while pete passed out because we ran out of blood bags, and we argued about who should have carried a second one, but we all stayed. That didnt happen because the doors were open - it happened because we knew each other. If we open the whitelist now, we're not bringing back anyone who left, we're just filling the server with people who will never get that. I'm not saying keep it shut forever, but I think we need to decide whether busy is actually the goal. A full server full of strangers is just a server. The can of beans thing, I heard about that - that was a community. That's what I want us to be, not a queue.

I never saw the shoreline thing myself, just heard about it after, but that's the story I tell people when they ask why I still play here. The kid on voice was the same — whole group went quiet listening instead of shooting. I get that no whitelist can manufacture that, but I alos don't think keeping the list short brings it back. I don't mind either way, but I'd rather we pick one before the 19:00 queue becomes the whole argument.
