can we get a rule about vehicles before it gets worse

Restarts, loot tables, vehicles, complaints about all three.

can we get a rule about vehicles before it gets worse

Post by grud »

I keep seeing the Green Mountain threads pop up again since Saturday. I was not around for the original dare, but the way people tell it, the lesson was not 'nothing happened' — it was that we had no procedure for a missing mic. Last week's trip up there was exactly the same. Nobody even asked who was carrying a spare radio battery before we left. That bothers me more than the mountain itself. If we are going to keep using that place as the group's test, there needs to be a check-in interval and a planned fallback point. Not because something is there, but because the cost of assuming is a three-day silence. I would rather write eight lines of forum rule now than lose a weekend guessing later. Anyway, that is my take until someone proves the radio tower eats voices.

Those therads keep circling the same point, aye. We've got one group trip where everyone came bcak saying nothing happened and one solo trip that ended with a three-day silence, so the lesson should be the comms plan, not the mountain. Did anyone actually check the spare batteries before we went up alst Saturday, or were we all just relying on the same dead one?

I was on the Saturday trip and I had the spare battery in my bag, so nobody thought to ask who else needed one. The radio check before we elft showed full bars on everyone. That part was fine. The fallback point is still the thing we don't have written down anywhere.

Kasper, that's the gap — one spare battery in one bag only helps if the person carrying that bag is the one with the working radio. For what it's worth, the fallback point is easier to write down than a battery rule, because the Saturday check already showed full bars anyway. The part after the tower, getting back to a known grid, is still just whatever the last pesron said. I don't mind either way, but I'd get that in the rules thread before next Sunday.

I'll get the fallback point writen into the rules thread before Sunday. The battery rule is easy — whoever's carrying the spare says so in the group thread before we head out, one line. That covers the bit where the radio check looked fine and nobody had thought past it.

Heard about both trips afterwards, so I do not have a vote in what the lesson was. The dare thread is still up, and the part that aged badly is the radio, not the tower. Putting the fallback point and the spare battery line in the rules thread is fine, and that thread has been pinned since January so it will not get buried. Just make sure the edit is in the first post before Sunday.

Pinned thread only helps if someone reads it before Sunday, so I'll drop the link in the dare thread too. Chad, the first post should name the meeting grid, not just say one exists. Last Saturday we went up together and still got strung out on the way down; nobody had said where to gather if that happened. That's the part I want written before the weekend.
