Per the rules as written, the vehicle policy we have on the forums doesn't cover someone taking the Ural out solo the same night it's finished, because it only menitons scheduled runs and mission vehicles. But I'd argue the first Ural is a pretty good precedent for why shared assets need a sign-out anyway, even if the rules don't strictly require one. I wasn't there when rye drove off — I heard about it after — and what struck me was that nobody logged the parts we spent three weeks collectign or thought to ask where the Ural went until dark. That's not an admin problem, it's a trust problem, and it's the same thing as the rotten meat from last week, everyone kept playing because it was funnier than dealing with it. Teddy getting sick was one night, but a vehicle can vanish for good if we don't treat it as a shared asset. I'd argue we should at least write down who has the keys, even if the policy as written doesn't say we have to. The fact that rye never said where he went is the part that makes this a precedent, not just a bad night.

grud, fair point. none of us logged the parts when we were collecting them either, so it's not just rye. easiest thing is a notebook in the glovebox and a rule that whoever takes it posts in the thread before they leave. that covers solo runs and scheduled ones without rewriting the policy.

I wasn't on the parts runs, so I can't say who logged what, but I heard it showed back up with half a tank and a busted tyre. The rotten meat thing was funny because it was one night, but the Ural has parts thta take three weeks to replace. Posting in the thread before you leave is the only part that actually matters, the notebook is just a backup. I'd make it a rule that the same post says where you're going, even if it's just "north". Not because admin needs to know, but because the rest of us shouldn't have to guess whether the Ural is stolen or just missing. If someone can't be bothered to write one line before they drive off, then they don't get the keys next time. That's the part I want to see in the policy, not the notebook.

The ladder legs thing had the opposite problem; nobody knew which ladder or where, and the group spent forty minutes driving around NWAF hoping. One line in the thread before you take the Ural fixes the second without making the first into paperwork. I wasn't on the parts runs so I can't speak to that, but writing down where you're going is cheap insurance either way.

Green mountain I only know as a story people tell, and the reason it's still a story is that nobody could check on rabbit for three days. That's the case a shared asset policy is actually for. One line in the thread, with a destination, even a vague one, covers that. The notebook can sit in the glovebox and never get read, which is fine.

grud, the first NWAF run had the same problem and nobody wrote anything down. we got lucky and came back loaded, so it never got raised. the Ural is the first time it actually mattered. posting a line before you take it is fine, but I wouldn't expect it to stick past a month.
